May Whetter & Grose are proud to have sponsored Robert Collins who ran this years London Marathon.
Robert completed the course in 5 hours 15 minutes with an average pace of a fraction over 12 minutes per mile.
Speaking of the day Robert was amazed by the party atmosphere, with “ crowds at least 4 to 5 people deep cheering you on with bands playing and Barbeques
During his journey he encountered participants dressed as Bottles, a Rhino, two contenders carrying a car, and even marines fully laden with full equipment and 200lb backpacks !
Asked about any difficulties during the run Robert confirmed that there were times when he thought that it may get the better of him but the energy of the crowd kept him focused on the remaining miles and once over the finishing line ,was sore for a few days afterwards but felt that the mammoth achievement was well worth the pain !
He had only started distance running in July last year and at that point was 16.5 stone in weight but staggeringly shed over 2.5 stone during training, regularly getting up at 6am to do 10-16 mile runs and building up stamina and distance from there.
Robert ran the 26 mile distance for Mount Edgcumbe Hospice stating that its “ a really worthwhile cause and I hope that my efforts will in some way help its patients and their families”
Robert is now looking forward for future marathons, both locally and nationally, and would like to thank all his friends and family for their amazing support in helping him maintain focus, and especially his partner who gave valuable advice regarding exercise regimes along with healthy eating, without whom he would never had been able to enjoy the Marathon Experience.
